Sun27SepWe are growing!

Please take note: Due to the large increase in entries over previous years, SEMF has had to make some scheduling changes. Junior and Senior piano will now run concurrently, and several other disciplines may also overlap. We are also running into difficulty finding venues because of the increase in entries and may need to make some changes. Please bear with us as we adjust to this exciting season of growth!

We are also in need of a strings co coordinator and a distribution person. If you can help by volunteering in this capacity please contact Candace Hamm at 204-380-9142.

Sun13SepNew Syllabus for AMAF! Addendum available October 1st!

Take note that the SEMF 2015-2016 addendum will be available October 1st, subject to the arrival of our new AMAF Syllabus. Teachers and schools may purchase the new syllabus for $15 through the AMAF website.

Tue9JunVolunteers needed!!

SEMF needs your help! We are struggling to find volunteers to keep up with our added growth. We currently need volunteers for the following positions: vocal, musical theatre, junior piano, choral, and strings co-coordinator, and a distribution person. The positions of vocal and musical theatre co-coordinator are the most urgent as these disciplines may not run if volunteers are not found. If you are able to help and would like more information please contact Candace Hamm at or by calling 204-380-9142. Have a great summer!

Mon30MarThank you for another great year!

SEMF would like to thank Southeastern Manitoba for your support of the festival this year, whether through entries, sponsorships, or volunteering. The festival is grateful to you! We saw a huge increase in participants this year and anticipate that the festival will only continue to grow.

We also wish to congratulate this year’s participants. We heard and saw many amazing performances from our choirs, speech arts, strings players, pianists, singers, and dancers. Thank you for sharing your love for music with us!

Trophy winners for 2015 have now been updated and are posted under the Trophy Winners tab on the website.

See you next year!

Fri27FebFestival is underway!

Thanks to all of our singers for a fantastic vocal session! We heard some inspiring performances. The festival continues today with the strings session and next up is senior piano. Just a reminder to see below for an invitation to view and play a Steinway piano prepped by Mark Cramer for the event. Have a great weekend!

Thu19FebInvitation to view Steinway Piano!

The Southeastern Manitoba Festival is less than a week away from beginning its 2015 season, and we have a very exciting invitation to extend to members of the artistic community in Southeastern Manitoba. Many are now aware of the proposed performing arts centre that is currently being planned for and discussed for the city of Steinbach, and while plans have not been finalized for the hall itself, we do know that one of the most important pieces of equipment that any centre for the arts can have is a concert grand piano. Several members of the community who have made music their career and who are passionate about providing the best possible facilities for our community were appointed to a committee to research different makes of pianos and to make a recommendation for a piano. We are beyond pleased to be able to announce that research has concluded and the committee has recommended that a Steinway and Sons concert grand piano be chosen to make its home in Steinbach.
This recommendation was not made without a great deal of thought and input from many career artists and piano technicians in the province as well as many sources from across the country, and at this point we wish to thank those who so graciously provided their input and aided the committee in their decision. We are also grateful to Steinway and Sons for their transparency and willingness to go above and beyond in providing us with the information we needed. Now, we wish to provide the community with an opportunity to hear the famed Steinway sound and to consider the recommendation we have made.
The Southeastern Manitoba Festival along the the Southeastern Manitoba Music Teachers Association and the Steinbach Arts Council would like to extend an invitation for all interested parties to attend the festival’s Senior Piano awards night at 7:00 p.m. on March 5th. Steinway and Sons have graciously agreed to provide a Steinway Model B piano (all the way from Toronto) for our up and coming artists to perform on, and we are excited to be able to provide an opportunity for all to see, play, and ask questions about the piano and the research process. The venue for this evening is the Steinbach Regional Secondary School, and a reception will follow the awards night with an opportunity to try the piano. Several members of the piano committee will be in attendance to answer questions along with the highly qualified piano technicians who were involved with this process and other members of the community. All are welcome!
